The passive margin of Beydaglari mountain belt looking west (taken from Akdaglar, near Elmali). The Beydaglari carbonate platform is of Late Cretaceous-Oligocene age and formed part of a large microcontinent within Neotethys. Deep-water marine sediments (35-20 Ma) in the plains of Elmali valley (right) confirm that these mountain summits formed a chain of islands during that time.
