A novel physico-chemical EOR method using inorganic gel-forming aluminium salt-carbamide-water (GALCA) systems has been developed. The method is based on the generation of an inorganic gel and CO2 in reservoirs with high formation temperature. The time needed for gel formation depends on temperature and composition of the mixture used. The gel may be characterized as a thixotropic pseudoplastic solid-like body with a coagulated structure. The gels enhance reservoir homogeneity, modify water injection profile and consequently increase oil production and reduce watercut. In numerous field tests carried out in West Siberia, this method has proven to be both technically and economically effective, as well as ecologically acceptable.
