Part III. Regional Studies in the Gregory Rift Valley |
The hominid from the Kapthurin Formation was found in the northeastern part of the basin of the Kapthurin River. The Formation is dominantly a sedimentary sequence with intercalated lavas and pyroclastic members. Evidence from lithology, fauna and algae has permitted reconstruction of the contemporary environment of the fossil hominid which has morphological affinities with some Algerian specimens of Homo erectus from Ternefine. The artifact assemblage is Late Acheulian and exhibits a prepared core technique. The age of the hominid and the artifacts is between 0.7 and 0.23 m.y.
