A fundamental goal of oil and gas reservoir characterization is to enhance the reliability of dynamic fluid flow simulation studies through better description of geological heterogeneity. Ideally, the geological model should be updated in real time with all available data (especially information derived from seismic, production, well test and core studies) to achieve significant optimization of field management. Such an update can lead to much improved understanding of the dynamic reservoir production forecasting. To this end we propose an integrated technique for improved geological modelling and reservoir characterization, which is based on a non-linear optimization loop for quantitative use of 4D seismic data in combination with production data.
