Families of Retiolitida and their phylogenetic relations

A. M. Obut & N. M. Zaslavskaya

Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Siberian Branch, Academy of Science, U.S.S.R., Universitetsky prosp. 3, Novosibirsk 630090, U.S.S.R.

Isolated material of retiolitid graptolites from boreholes in the Russian and Siberian platforms is described and has enabled a reassessment of the classification and phylogeny of this large group of graptolites to be made. The Order Retiolitida (Mikhaylova 1970) is considered to consist of the following families: Archiretiolitidae (Bulman 1955); Pseudoretiolitidae (Obut & Zasalavskaya 1974); Retiolitidae (Lapworth 1873); and Plectograptidae (Boucek & Münch 1952). The new subfamilies Pseudoplegmatograptinae (Retiolitidae) and Gothograptinae (Plectograptidae) are proposed and the taxa Agastograptus robustus gen. and sp. nov. and Pseudoplectograptus gen. nov., both assigned to the Plectograptinae, are erected.

All material used is deposited in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R., Novosibirsk.
