The Ordovician graptolite-bearing strata of Xiushui drainage basin, Jiangxi, southern China and their correlation

Jianhua Yu & Yiting Fang

Department of Geology, Nanjing University, Nanjing, People’s Republic of China

The Xiushui drainage basin of Jiangxi is situated on the northern margin of the Jiangnan biogeographical province and adjoins the southern Yangtze province. The Ordovician System in this area is well developed, with a clear base and top, and is rich in fossils. It is one of the best Ordovician sections in China. The stratigraphy, faunal characteristics and correlation of the Ordovician graptolite-bearing strata have been studied. The lower and upper boundaries of the Ordovician System are also discussed.
