The Geological Society of London was founded in 1807 and its Quarterly Journal first appeared in 1845. The Quarterly Journal is primarily a medium for the publication of the results of original research, but it also contains important reviews, such as Presidential Addresses and William Smith Lectures. Its subject-matter coversthe whole field of geology and is world-wide in scope. Discussions are published with most papers.
